Bardo-what?? Bardolino. A somewhat forgotten appellation between Lago di Garda and where the more famous Amarone's and Valpolicella's are made. The same grapes (Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara) are used, with the difference that here (to a limited extent) other grapes are allowed in the blend. 'Bardolino Chiaretto' is the term used for rosé from Bardolino and is considered one of the best rosé's in the world. Daniele and Chiara are situated with their Villa Calicantus in the heart of the 'Classico' area, on the top of a high hill, between woods and olive groves. With their 8 hectares they are one of the smallest wine estates in the area. They have been working without chemicals for 10 years, are certified in biodynamics and prove with their wines, which they mature longer than anyone else in the appellation, that Bardolino is back! And how!
