About the producer

The Mountain

Domenico (Mimmo) Capello's La Montagnetta has managed to make a name for itself in just a few years, despite stiff competition in Piedmont. His farm is located in the hamlet of Bricco Capello in Roatto, in the province of Asti. He owns 15 hectares of land, of which 10 hectares are vineyards. In his previous life he worked for 'the Railway' in Italy, "the most boring job in the world" (his own words). La Montagnetta is best known for its wines based on Freisa. Sparkling, still, red, rosé, aged in amphora, in cement, and even one with naturally dried grapes added at the end of fermentation. Vinification is his playground, he has mastered it perfectly. The winery not only focuses on Freisa, but also grows Bonarda, Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Viognier and produces excellent Barbera wines.
