About the producer
Barbacàn
The Sega brothers, Matteo & Luca, together with dad Angelo, are the heart & soul of the cult domain Barbacàn. Barbacàn is without a doubt one of the pioneers of vini naturali on the steep slopes of the spectacular DOC Valtellina, in the north of Lombardy, near the town of Sondrio. The Sega's own around 7HA, the lion's share of which is planted with Chiavennasca (the local synonym of Nebbiolo, and according to recent DNA tests also the birth region of Nebbiolo (scusi Piemonte!), as well as some other local varieties such as Pignola & Negrara. Their wonderful Rosato and Rosso di Valtellina are the flagships of the estate, while tiny parcels on the crus Söl, Pizamej & Fracia (all at over 500m altitude, with a slope of over 65%) are among the very best the DOC(G) has to offer.
