On a small estate in the east of Pomerol lie the vineyards of the famous Petrus, known worldwide as one of the best wines in the world. These relatively small vineyards are planted on the highest point of Pomerol, full of clay soil that is very rich in iron. Because this soil becomes very hard in the summer, the Romans described this hill with the word “Petrus”, which literally meant “little rock”. It was only when the estate became the property of the Arnaud family that the wine was officially given the same name in 1837. At that time, the original vineyard was less than 7 hectares. It is a rich, round and velvety wine, made from 100% Merlot, with aromas of cassis and cherry, liquorice, violet and truffle. Although very concentrated and fleshy, this wine is distinguished by an incredible harmony and consistency.
