Additional information vinification the three varieties are fermented separately and matured for 16 months in barriques (20% new). The blend is made in concrete vats and then the wine matures for at least one year in the bottle.
Vintage info After a mild and dry winter, a cool, wet spring made for a relatively slow growing season. However, flowering and fruit set went well, resulting in a phenomenal harvest in quality and quantity. In the first week of May, temperatures in the Maremma rose, and this heat lasted throughout the summer. It was hot at times, but there were no problems with drought stress thanks to the abundant water reserves after the spring rains. September brought the desired day/night temperature differences, and excellent phenolic ripeness was achieved with wonderful skin-pulp ratios.

About the producer

Querciabella

Once upon a time, an industrialist and lifelong wine lover, Giuppe Castiglioni, decided in 1974 to buy a single hectare of vineyard on a Tuscan hillside. He dreamed of producing rich, elegant wines, not only from indigenous Sangiovese grapes, but also from those typical of Bordeaux and Burgundy. As early as 1988, his son Sebastiano converted to organic viticulture, one of the first in Italy. While many wineries were still considering the organic trend, in 2000 Querciabella even took the step towards a 100% plant-based approach to biodynamics. Yes, vegan wine, no animal products whatsoever. Today, the family owns 100 hectares of vineyards, one part in the Chianti Classico, flanked by oak forests and rolling hills, the other part in the Maremma, bordering the unspoilt beauty of the Tuscan coastline. Querciabella is simply one of Italy's best and most innovative wine estates, period!
