Bodegas Castro Martin is located in one of the northernmost zones of Rías Baixas. More specifically, in the Salnes Valley, which is known as the growing land of the Albariño grape. Due to its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, the climate is cool enough to produce grapes with a crisp, fresh acidity, which is ideal for the Albariño grape to express its typical liveliness and fruity aromas. Together with the sandy soils, full of minerals (granite and quartz), the vineyards of Bodegas Castro Martin are remarkably and strongly situated. Their wines are considered by many to be among the best in the region. What also makes this winery unique is the fact that their wines are aged on the lees for a minimum of 5 to 6 months. This technique not only adds to the complexity of the wine, but also extends the aging potential of each release. The estate is currently run by daughter Angela, who is trained as a biologist and winemaker.
