About the producer

Mailly

Mailly Grand Cru was founded in 1929 by three wine grower friends who were fed up with the figurative knife to the throat of the grandes marques time and again when buying/selling their grapes. The gentlemen decided to start producing Champagne together, but in the midst of the crisis. Naturally, they were boycotted for years by their ex-colleagues, but they persevered and after a few decades they had grown into a formidable opponent. The Mailly vineyards completely surround the Grand Cru village, situated in the heart of the Montagne de Reims nature park. 70 ha, divided over 480 plots, all planted with two noble grape varieties: Pinot Noir (75%) and Chardonnay (25%). Most plots are located on the northern slopes and produce subtle, well-balanced wines, a bit of the trademark of Mailly Champagne. Their headquarters are located in the middle of these slopes: a glass pavilion with no less than seven different levels of cellars and no less than a kilometre long stretch of 'crayères' where the champagnes mature in a more than optimal environment.
