About the producer

Castle of Verduno

Castello di Verduno is located in the north of Barolo, although they also make Barbaresco. In 2000, the young and very talented winemaker Mario Andrion took over. Under his vision, the estate has become one of the main players in not only Verduno, but also the rest of Piemonte. Not necessarily in size, but in respect and philosophy. Their wines are quite traditional in style, but never rustic. On the contrary, they retain a rare elegance and purity. Fermentation takes place in open vats and lasts up to 90 days for the Barolos and Barbarescos with the so-called 'Submerged Cap' method. There, the cap consisting of the skins is pushed down into the wine after about thirty or forty days to mature for another two months. This ensures that the tannins become silky soft. They also adhere to the principles of organic viticulture.
